Who's in the Saddle?
I’m Vicky. Born in Ireland. Based in Glasgow. Usually found splattered in mud and out exploring Scotland’s trails.
Outdoor adventures are everything to me.

They are how I found my best friends, my partner, and my way to better mental health.

My Story
As a kid I loved being outdoors. One of my favourite childhood memories is of running through the local forests with my dad on a Sunday morning, haphazardly stumbling upon and stamping off our orienteering cards because we had no clue how to read the map.

In my late teens & early twenties I went through a really rough patch with my mental health. I struggled with depression, anxiety, dependency, and self-destructive behaviours. This tested almost every relationship I had and ultimately, broke most of them down.

A big step on my road to recovery was discovering my love of adventure sports. First came whitewater kayaking. Kayaking was my perfect therapy – forcing me, through adrenaline and fear, to focus on the ‘right now’. Soon afterwards I found climbing. I started to build healthier relationships, and today I can happily say that I’ve met many of my best friends through communities of women climbing, biking, and hiking in the outdoors.

My love of adventures outdoors keeps growing. I’ve dipped my toes into surfing and snowboarding, and most of all cycling. I love being off-road on my bike, hitting up gravel and easy mountain bike trails.

The Polar Pedal
In Autumn 2023 I will be taking on my first big solo bikepacking adventure: cycling over 600 km across Finland and Norway, from the Arctic Circle to the Arctic Ocean, with the support of Adventure Queens UK.

On this blog I’ll be sharing my journey as I plan, train for, and ultimately attempt this epic adventure. By sharing my story I aim to inspire conversations about gender, mental health and breaking down barriers to the great outdoors.
